Saturday/Sunday On Saturday we left Livingston La around 8 am, finished the drive across La, crossed Mississippi, and headed across Alabama on I65. When in Louisiana we passed a truck pulling a purple 2 story structure with people in it who were waving at passing traffic--not sure what that was all about, perhaps getting ready for Mardi Gras or they were folks lost from a Christmas parade?. The Alabama countryside was nice, especially going across Mobile and Middle Rivers. We camped near Auburn at Chewacla State Park. The drive was only 5.5 hours. compared to 9 hours on Friday. Chewacla was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, as were many state parks. We took a nice hike, and has a great last supper together--cornish hen on the grill, salad, broccoli. Some guy with a beer came over and told Bibi he was going to have to confiscate her cooler. Turns out he was a semi-permanent resident who worked as a volunteer at the park. He brought us some extra firewood over and then disappeared. After supper it started raining and we had our first ever jam session in the back of the Freer horse trailer. A big time was had by all, especially Wishbone, who made his singing debut! Billie and I said our goodbyes and pulled out at 7:30 Sunday morning, hoping to get home early. A couple of distractions later, and we were passed by Freer/Graves north of Alanta. We did make it home by 2:30, having plenty of time to unload before daughter Erin and her family (Josh, Adeline, Meredith) came over for dinner. I have attached a photo of Meredith, who insisted on wear
ing her new Luckenbach tie dyed shirt! It was a wonderful trip with dear friends--I already miss them! It was great to visit Texas, which I had only just passed through before. Hopefully we will be able to visit Big Bend National Park in west Texas on another trip, with stops for music in Luckenbach and steaks in Goliad! Cheers PBR
